Low carb snacks for youngsters

April 7th, 2008No Comments

In the recent times, various medical journals have conducted researches and have found out that an alarming section of the young children especially in the western countries are victims of obesity. About 50% and more kids are affected by obesity and it is even more alarming to note that despite repeated awareness programs there has been little effect and no decrease has been noted in this ever rising obesity graph. In case of children, this is an even more shocking proposition as with the passage of time as they grow older, they will find it even more difficult to lose these extra pounds accumulated in their growing years. A lot of responsibility for this increasing rate of obesity among the young children can be attributed to adults only. This is because it is these adults who have introduced them to the lure of fats and junk foods and while occasional consumption of these food items is not so harmful, regular intake may contribute to obesity immensely. Low carb diets have been considered to be one of the most effective and healthy ways of losing weight and it involves intake of liberal proportions of proteins and fats. It is important to note that one should avoid food items which are low in fat content but contain sufficient amount of calories. The ideal low carb snack should contain certain amounts of fibers, proteins and fats cutting down on the various bad carbohydrates like white sugar, white flour and white breads. Eggs may be consumed but they should be supplemented with sufficient amounts of vegetables as well.

The sudden upsurge with respect to losing weight has led to the introduction of various packaged food items which are known to facilitate weight loss. There are many low carb snacks sold in the market in packaged forms but one should be careful before investing on them as they are not always quite healthy and high in nutrition content. It is to be remembered that the weight loss process must also be a nutritious process and it definitely does not stand synonymous with crash dieting. Starchy food items like breads and potatoes should be avoided while on a low carb diet and therefore these are excluded from low carb snacks. However certain varieties of low carb breads are available which may be confused occasionally. If one strictly resorts to a low carb diet throughout the week, one may indulge in a bit of junk food once in a while.
